How to respond:
ABCs: Always start with your primary survey (Airway à Breathing à Circulation)
If the patient is sitting up talking, it is automatically different from a stat response where the patient is altered with respiratory depression
Why was the stat response called?
What are the patient’s vitals?
What was the patient admitted for?
What has occurred during hospital stay?
Does this patient require immediate upgrade to ICU?
Do any labs need to be drawn? Does the patient require stat CXR or other imaging?
Discuss plan with staff. Determine who will follow-up on labs ordered and overall patient condition.
Stat response note:
Time of stat response called
Team members present at response
Reason for stat response
Patient’s vitals
Severity of patient condition
Interventions performed, labs/radiology/EKG/ABG ordered
Plan for following-up labs
Plan for escalation in level of care or monitoring on floor
